Aim
The aim of this presentation is to demonstrate the radiologic and clinical characteristics of Squamous Cell Carcinoma
(SCC) with 6 cases.
Material and Methods
Clinical examinations were performed and CBCT images were taken from the patients whose orthopantomographic
images had showed lesions localized in jaws. Biopsies were taken from all 6 patients.
Results
The ages of the patients ranged between 38-67 and the female:male ratio was 1:2. 5 lesions were seen in mandible while
1 lesion was localized in maxilla. Patients had ulcerated regions or swollen soft tissue masses which appeared as white
and red patchy lesions. SCCs which caused bone destruction were characterized with peripherally ill-defined regions
which lack cortication and sclerotic border. The histopathologic features of the lesions were compatible with the SCC.
Conclusion
Prolonged survival rates are achievable in early diagnosed malignancies; thus, dentists should be able to detect early
clinical and radiologic findings of oral malignancies such as SCCs.
