dc.description.abstract | Objective: Primer hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is defined as a condition of hypercalcemiadue to parathyroid glands’ hyperfunction. PHPT cases are caused by 80% to 85% of Parathyroidadenomas and 1% of parathyroid malignency. Despite being a most important signof hyperparatiroidism, PTH can also use for treatment. PTH can be used in oral surgery fortreatment of MRONJ(Medication Related Osteonecrosis of Jaw), osteoradionecrosis defectsand brown tumor, and also to enhance consolidation phase of distraction osteogenesis.Case: In following case patient referred our clinic with complaint of mandibular pain, andafter radiographic evaluation bilateral multilocular radiolucent lesions was noticed. Becauseof bilateral involvement, patient looked for a systemic problem such as primer hyperparathyroidismso before incisional biopsy, patient was advised blood investigations that revealedPTH level of 784 IU/L. Patient immediately directed to endocrinology. As a consequence ofother blood and radiographic investigations, patient diagnosed Hurthle Cell Follicular Carcinomaand thyroidectomy operation was done by endocrinology department. Conclusion: Evaluation of radiolucent lesions on jaws may act a significant part of detectingendocrine malignancies. Oral surgeons’ role in this issue is quite important and crucial forearly diagnosis. | |
