Scale for The Perception About Religious People: Reliability and Validity Study

Abstract

In this study the reliability and validity analysis of "Scale for the Perception About Religious People" (SPARP) are presented. This scale has been developed in order to determine the perspectives of people to the religious segment of the society, in other words, to the people who give the impression of religiousness with their clothes and discourses. Namely, it's aimed to determine perception about how religious peoples act morally. Two main applications were carried out in the study except the two pretests. The data of the first study on 387 people over the age of 18 were subjected to factor analysis and as a result a 13-item one-dimensional scale structure was obtained. Based on the confirmatory factor analysis, the following fit scores were obtained: X2 / df = 1.90, RMSEA = 0.075, NH = 0.95, NNFI = 0.97, CFI = 0.98, RMR = 0.052, SRMR = 0.048, GFI = 0.90 and AGFI = 0.85.The reliability coefficient (Cronbach's Alpha) of 13 items and the single-factor construct was.92. Also, the results of the split half reliability (Spearman Brown) test were as follows: reliability coefficient of the first half was .86, the reliability coefficient of the second half is .85 and the correlation coefficient (r) between the two halves is .82. The values revealed show that the scale is a highly reliable and valid scale.
