dc.description.abstract | In this study, we investigated the effects of both starvation and cold-restraint stress on lipid peroxidation (LP) and glutathione (GSH) in the liver and gastric mucosa of the rats. Hepatic lipid peroxide levels were found unchanged after starvation. Starvation did not change lipid peroxide and glutathione; levels in gastric mucosa. On the other hand, there were significant elevations in hepatic and gastric lipid peroxide levels following cold-restraint stress. In addition, glutathione levels were found decreased in liver but unchanged in gastric mucosa. Free radicals may play an important role in the pathogenesis of experimental gastric lesions induced by cold-restraint stress. | |
