Ayda Yorukan's Works on Urban Sociology

Abstract

Today, urban sociology is one of the dynamic subcategories of sociology. Ayda Yorukan did many studies about urban sociology, starting from 1950s. However, most of the urban sociology studies in Turkey have not mentioned about them. Yorukan was a student of Hilmi Ziya Ulken and worked at Sociology Department of IIstanbul University temporarily. She contributed urban sociology studies of Turkey through working about both urban theories and problems. She had made a definition of city like Rene Maunier, which is not just limited with the characteristics of West cities and studied ecological, socio-psychological and cultural dimensions of urban life.
