In gram-negative bacteria, antimicrobial resistance related to beta-lactamases is a serious problem in the management of healthcare-related infections. Enzymatic resistance due to beta-lactamases is mostly transferred via plasmids, which results in multiple drug resistance and difficulties in the treatment. Carbapenems are the most reliable group of antimicrobials in the treatment of infections caused by these resistant bacteria. In this report, we aimed to reveal the antimicrobial resistance-related carbapenemase-mediated resistance to carbapenems, the clinical significance, and the detectability of the resistance in the laboratory.
