EXAMINING COMPLEMENTARY EDUCATION FUNCTION ON ACIK RADYO
Abstract
The story of distance education starting with letter has gained great acceleration with radio which can reach large mass. Especially, illiterate people were able to get involved into effective training process owing to radio. Radio has further increased its significance because people can reach it easily and cheaply. Today, in the field of education, during the first years of radio which has functioned generally in third world country, many countries have taken advantage of radio's learning-teaching function. The aim of this study is to reemphasize that radio as a mass media has learning- teaching function in accordance with present conditions in distance education activities performing generally internet based in today. In this context, complementary education function of Acik Radyo which is single reference in its field in terms of the diversity of the program content in Turkey has been questioned as a distance education instrument. Acik Radyo programs between on January 20 - February 2 2014 have been listened in detail and its program types have been recorded to coding form which is prepared by the method of content analysis. The reason of 15 days period sample is that some programs have got 15 days broadcast period in Acik Radyo. Thus, all programs representing to Acik Radyo has included in research subject. A radio which has original program contents and is not thematic has also functioned as complementary education instrument within common-public education. Thus, the role of Acik Radyo as a distance education instrument has been revealed.
