Aging is a normal process in all living organisms due to the error-prone molecular processes that occur as a result ofchanging environmental conditions over time. As a result of studies at the molecular level, it has been determined that thecellular aging mechanisms between organisms are extremely common and conserved. Green tea has a very highantioxidant activity compared to other teas obtained from the same plant. Considering the ratios of polyphenols, whichmake up approximately 37% of its composition, it is striking that Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) polyphenol is presentin the maximum amount; For this reason, the focus of studies on green tea is EGCG, which is considered the activeingredient of green tea. In this study, the effect of EGCG, the active ingredient of green tea, on cellular aging wasinvestigated in Schizosaccharomyces pombe, which is accepted as a model organism, by evaluating parameters such aslifespan, carbohydrate consumption, intracellular oxidation, and it was observed that EGCG delays aging and improvessome cellular parameters.
