Infection remains a major cause of patient morbidity and mortality. The role of Tc-99m HMPO leukocyte imaging plays an important role in the diagnostic evaluation of the patient suspected of harboring infection. There are some limitations to the use of leukocytes. False positive results have been described with Tc-99m HMPAO-labeled leukocytes in sterile hematomas, bleeding wounds, and wounds healing by secondary infection, tumors, cerebral infarction, tracheotomy and colostomy sites, vascular access lines, and dialysis catheters. We present a case of false positive uptake of Tc-99m HMPAO-labeled leukocytes in a 7 year old child with a cavernous hemangioma.
