Investigation of Microstructural Properties of Sm0.1Ce0.9O1.95 Powders
Abstract
Ceria doped with rare earth oxides such as Gd2O3, Sm2O3 has been considered as one of the most promising candidate materials as electrolyte materials for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells. Samarium doped ceria, Sm0.1Ce0.9O1.95 (SDC), powders are successfully prepared by Pechini method using ethylene glycol, citric acid, cerium nitrate and samarium nitrate as the starting materials. Crystal structure and microstructure were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electronmicroscopy (SEM). The sintered SDC samples at 1400 degrees C had dense structure (98% of the theoretical density).
